A week with Fribourg students

Last week, a group of students from the University of Freiburg spent a week at Ryumonji. As future teachers, these students immersed themselves fully in the life of the temple, combining study in the afternoons with community involvement in the mornings.

The aim of their stay at the temple was to develop a deep understanding of Buddhist teachings and Zen practices while actively contributing to the community. Each morning they took part in 'samou', the temple's voluntary community service activity, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to monastic life.

In addition to their involvement in samou, the students had the opportunity to share and learn all the temple's practices, including zazen (sitting meditation) and Zen ceremonies. This complete immersion in monastic life has helped them to integrate the Buddhist teachings more deeply.

One of the students is also a photographer and has captured moments of their stay.
